[22.4.08] Leviticus 19:28

You shall not make any cuts in your body for the dead nor make any tattoo marks on yourselves: I am the LORD.

What does that say? Read it again. If you didn't notice, GOD even clarifies who he is to have the authority to command this. I just can't understand consciously knowing that something goes against your GOD's will, and still wanting to do it. It's disgusting.

It clearly says “You shall NOT [...] make ANY tattoo marks on yourselves: I AM THE LORD.” [Capitalized, of course, for clarity.]

And while I'm at it: Exodus 20:1–2

And God spoke all these words:

“I am the LORD your GOD, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.”

Hey, kids.... For any innocent bystanders out there, there is more to this in the comments. If you're interested, read them, or even add some of your own thoughts. :)

humm, not that it okays it, but God also clearly says don't lie, lust, covet and many many other things. those are all against God's will, but we willing do them as well. so basically, there is no difference.

awww, i felt bad you had no comments, and RAE has like...a million.

and i must also say, in the new testament, Jesus says, "We are free from the curse of the law" like moses's law..like, Peter had a vision where God told Him that it was okay to eat pig, and Jesus is here for the gentiles as well as the Jews. Anyway, basically, yes, a tattoo is probably not the best thing to get, because it could get infected and stuff, but it's not a sin any longer.

i don't have a million comments. lol.

I feel that, when Jesus said "We are free from the curse of the law." I think it meant more that you no longer have to make sacrifices and such, not that you should disregard all of his Father's commanments.

I think, if God commands something, there's probably a good reason for it. Take, "Do Not Commit Adultery" as an example. Say you're married, but then you decide it'd be fun to have kids with someone else on the side. Let's say your spouse excepts that you wronged him/her (as long as you don't do it again), you'd still have to deal with the consequences. You'd always have that burden for the rest of your life. You'd probably have to pay welfare for the child, and your relationship with your spouse would be damaged forever. It would suck. Well, I think it's that way for every single commandment God has given us. They're commanded for our benefit, not because God is bossy.

Let's look at it another way. You're always telling me to pray, and try to make sure I'm doing God's will. Well this is something he COMMANDED, we KNOW it's his will. If you want to follow his will one way, you should do the others, right?

There definitely is consequences to cutting yourself, or getting tattoos. God wouldn't command it if he didn't have in mind the best for his children.

I can't remember ever winning an argument... or discussion in my life. But please, hear me out, just this once.

Also, in response to Mr. E [respectfully]...

Just because everyone sins, does it make it right? Jesus wants us to live for Him... We should at least try follow His will.

here's what i am saying, we all interpret things differently from the bible. i personally am not very religious. but i do have very high morals and standards, which were and have been shaped by God's commands and desires. i think so many things He commanded meant something in a certain way at different times, and time periods to many different races of people in the bible. i am not so sure that they still ALL apply to humans today. if i chose to get a tattoo i am not making it an idol. i am not trying to do anything with it that would be subjective to being classified as sin. so, why, and where does it say, the reasons why it's a sin?

also, the only thing i was trying to point out was this-
brian-I just can't understand consciously knowing that something goes against your GOD's will, and still wanting to do it. It's disgusting.-

i don't think just using the example of cutting or tattoos was the right way to go. all sin is equal. it's ALL disgusting. so if, and notice the if, getting a tattoo or cutting is a sin, believe me it's not any worse then the times you covet, or lie to your parents, or disrespect your elders, or forget to love your bother. i am not at all trying to pitch the everyone does it so it doesn't matter anyway, but bare in mind that you and i are no better then the worst criminal sitting in prison right now.

Yeah, maybe it is a ridiculous statement, but I also happen to find tattoos extremely vulgar, so maybe it's a bit biased towards that...

Sin... Is disobedience to God, correct? So, if you don't follow His commands, you're technically sinning, whether you're cursed by the law or not. Really, man.

Course... I'm not that intelligent, s, quoting and article on All About God... [I'd reccomend reading the whole thing...)

Sin, as defined in the original translations of the Bible, means "to miss the mark." The mark, in this case, is the standard of perfection established by God and evidenced by Jesus.

And then of course, you have the best argument of all—ALL SIN IS EQUAL. So, according to what you said... Getting a tattoo is just as sinful as killing your parents. No better no worse.

but then that's saying i agree that getting a tattoo is sinning, which i don't. will people suffer consequences for getting tattoos that are vulgar and that they idolize? of course, but i just don't think the act itself is a sin.

huh. okay. i can say you both have a point, but i really don't want to argue with it. What's the point of debating doctrine? If we love God and Jesus, and we live our life for Him, die and meet Him in heaven, will we care if someone got a tattoo. and OMG! it WAS a sin..well, it's forgiven anyway. it doesn't really do any good to debate this. so i'll be seeing you guys back on my blog. :D
